March 2024 Meeting Program
"Draping on a Mannequin"
This month, Alison Hughes of Beatrice Forms will guide us through the process of draping on a dress form and open our eyes to the possibilities that lie beyond flat pattern.
In 2014, Alison Hughes and her husband, Nathan Barefield, left their tech jobs at Apple and moved to a small farm in Colorado. They rehabilitated nine acres of farmland, began raising goats and transforming their barn into a dream workshop for a consulting business where they helped startups bring their ideas to life. Soon after, they began dreaming up their own Big Idea, a way to help garment sewists tackle one of their biggest challenges: making clothes that fit. Their solution was the Beatrice Dress Form, a beautifully-crafted replica of its owner. Alison and Nathan do everything themselves, from developing the scanner app that you download to your phone to guiding you through the scanning and measuring process, to fabricating and crating the finished product, and much more in between. No wonder they have such a devoted following. We can’t wait to introduce you to Alison.
